Mobile Menorahs Take Chanukah Message to City Streets

Thousands of cars topped with eight-branched festive candelabras, known as menorahs, will parade in cities across the globe to spread the message of Chanukah. The eight-day Festival of Lights commemorates the Jewish people’s victory over the Syrian Greeks 2,146 years ago and subsequent rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, proclaiming the triumph of light over darkness.
The cars that participate in Chabad-Lubavitch menorah parades typically stop at a grand menorah lighting in a city’s center. Here, in Vancouver, British Columbia, a car-topped menorah passes through downtown. (Photo: Yosef Lewis)
